The 2016 Create Your Space Scholarship
With the average dorm room size hovering around 200 square feet, decorating your freshman year dorm room can be a challenge. Between two beds, two desks, a fridge, a microwave, extra storage, a television, and seating, living in a tiny dorm room has become a rite of passage for thousands of college freshmen. By using tricks like lofting beds, adding shelving, and using ottomans that double as storage crates, college freshmen have been able to make the most out of their small spaces.
At Next Door Self Storage, we’re all about creating extra space for our customers, so that they don’t have unnecessary items cluttering their homes or offices. College freshmen face storage dilemmas every day; after all, there’s no room in your dorm’s closet to have both winter and summer clothes at the same time, and you probably have to make the tough choice between having a futon or keeping your beds unbunked. Having even a little extra space could make a world of difference – so what if you had an extra 100 square feet?
By writing an essay that answers the question “What would you do with an extra 100 square feet in your dorm room or apartment?” you might win a $1,000 prize. We’re offering $1,000 to be used towards books, school supplies, and all of the other things that take up space in your dorm room. All we need from you is a 600-word essay sharing what you’d do with an extra 100 square feet of space in your dorm room.
Note that the scholarship is available to freshmen or incoming freshmen for the Spring 2016 semester, and you don’t need to reside in a dorm to be eligible.
Essays will be judged on voice, creativity, and grammar. We encourage you to explore outside the box for your answers- maybe your extra-large dorm room would include a 3D printer, a massage table, an Italian espresso machine, or a dedicated space for your yoga practice. Whatever your dream dorm room would include, we want to hear about it!
